Walking in a winter dachshundland...

Lovely to see our friends at Hampstead Heath today! The weather fairy was def on our side.

Jasper the paralysed dachshund

A paralysed dachshund has learned to walk again after cells taken from his nose were used to bridge the breaks in his spinal cord.

Jasper, who has been unable to walk since 2008, has now been described as his owner as “whizzing around the house”.

The study offers new hope for paralysed human beings and is the first demonstration of effective spinal cord repair in “real life” injury cases.

Professor Robin Franklin, one of the study leaders from Cambridge University, said: "Our findings are extremely exciting because they show for the first time that transplanting these types of cell into a severely damaged spinal cord can bring about significant improvement."

Jasper's owner Mrs May Hay, from Cambridge, said: "Before the trial, Jasper was unable to walk at all. When we took him out we used a sling for his back legs so that he could exercise the front ones. It was heartbreaking. But now we can't stop him whizzing round the house and he can even keep up with the two other dogs we own. It's utterly magic."

Regents Park walk

What a lovely afternoon we spent walking in Regents Park. The group met at The Honest Sausage and after a few exchanges in friendly sausage banter we headed up the path at the amusement of many families and couples strolling along.

I still find it amusing that dachshunds have this innate power to simply turn heads no matter how stern the passer by may look. And yet again we managed to succeed in turning a few this afternoon.

Amongst the newcomers a gorgeous pup Cass pictured above and Cambridge Crombie!

Darcy at Discover Dogs

We managed to get down to Earls Court yesterday and met the lovely Darcy and owner Maria representing Dachshunds at Discover Dogs, keep up the good work guys! 

We also sneaked a few extra cuddles in with these guys....but please don't tell Milo! :) to compensate he got a few treats brought home for him... at least I don't feel guilty he missed out.
